Twilight

I caved. I was trying to be strong and not fall into it. It worked for once before. I know it seems crazy, but I never once read any of the Harry Potter books. My sister was obsessed. She has read each book at least 5 times. I tried with The Sorcerer’s Stone, but after a few chapters I got bored and gave up. The movies, though, are a different story. I can’t get enough.

So I was trying to be strong. I didn’t want to get caught up in the craze. I have enough reading to do for school. I don’t need another distraction. But I kept hearing so many stories about Edward and Bella. People flew through the books at record speed. “Must be a good story,” I thought.

So I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday afternoon and bought Twilight and New Moon. I played with the idea of buying just the first book, but since everyone I know has finished it within 48 hours, I figured I might want to keep the second one on hand. Just in case.

After I bought the books I walked a few blocks to Starbucks, bought a Pumpkin Spice Latte, found a comfortable chair, and sat down to read. Two hours and five chapters later I got up to leave.

Oh, Edward, I’m already in love.

When you are not at school and Bella is disappointed, I am disappointed. I want to see you sitting in the cafeteria. The way your hair glistens, your eyes shine, and your skin glows. The corners of your lips turn up and it makes me smile. Your dark eyes are so mysterious. Then they turn a light golden brown. Swoon.

I made myself stop in the middle of Chapter 9 last night. It was getting late and I didn’t want to ruin my sleep schedule. Okay, that’s a lie. The truth is, I’m trying to ration the story. I feel like I’ve found something wonderful and I don’t want it to end. What will I do when it’s over?

  1. Yay! I’m so glad another person understands the craze (no matter how nerdy!) Yes…Edward…swoon. We all want to find our own Edward, don’t we?

  2. I’ve been on the fence about this series for quite some time(I never went for Harry Potter either), but your post has convinced me to give it a chance. I’m heading over the Barnes and Noble on my way home from work today!

  3. Princess Extraordinaire

I, too, am totally addicted!! I am in love with all the characters and am sad that the end is near…

  4. I’ve been considering reading this also, and you’ve basically just tipped me to the yes side. I keep hearing how good it is.

  5. I was quite reluctant to read Harry Potter and was forced to in 2002 and loved it. So I’ve heard amazing things about Twilight and want to read it, but the library here has a super long waiting list for them and I’m trying not to buy books while overseas. Enjoy them!!

  6. oh, twilight. how i love thee.

it was hard for me, when it was all over, all four books done and read. i was emotionally exhausted, since i read all four so close together, the last two over one weekend. i just got so caught up in their story, you’d think i would want a break, want to read something different, but nope. rereading them, i had to.

i’m glad you like it though. i feel bad whenever i’ve raved about something, and then someone else tries it and doesn’t feel the same. lol

  7. That’s exactly how I am/was about HP–the movies are awesome, but the books bored me to tears. I’m on the fence about Twilight, but maybe I’ll borrow my teenager sister’s copy when she is done!

  8. I am absolutely in love with Edward. I haven’t read the 4th book yet because I dont want the series to end. I cannot wait for the movie.

  9. I think you just left a comment on my page (which I approved) and I have NO IDEA which post it was for. I wanted to respond to it but I can’t find it and it’s driving me crazy! Ha ha!

  10. I love the idea of Edward – he’s amazing. I think the book isn’t written very well but the story is compelling. I read the last 3 books on vacation. I was totally an addict

  11. I’m going to order the book on November 5 when it comes out in my country ~ can’t wait!
I’m ready to spend my money on the books, from which I wanted to get my hair done. Miracle, I say.

  12. I tend to miss trends and then wonder what everyone is talking about. Thank you for letting me know it’s a book series… Maybe I’ll have to check it out.

  13. I avoid those books too. But I have heard soo much about this one that I might soon cave in and read it!

  14. I read Twilight a few weeks ago, and I loved it! I absolutely devoured it, and ended up staying up into the night because I wanted to find out what happened. Well done on been restrained! You’re stronger-willed than I am!

I’ve just ordered New Moon – hopefully it will be as fabbity as Twilight!

  15. Yes! Twilight is seriously addictive. I loved the second book. In my opinion the third dragged a bit through the first half. I have the fourth on my nightstand, all ready to go. It’s so nice to just read something fun and easy.

  16. Yes. Yes. YES!

  17. I’m always happy to hear someone else has fallen under Edward’s spell. I wish I could read the series again for the first time.

  18. EEEEKS…I am going to wait until Thanksgiving break to read the first one! Too busy right now eeeeks..must wait.

    but so excited

  19. I did like the first book but thought it was WAY to slow in getting entertaining. I started New Moon Saturday and now have 100 pages left. I nearly tackled someone today to borrow the third one. Thank goodness it’s an easy read.

  20. haha i was exactly the same way! i didn’t want to get into twilight but i couldn’t help and i am totally in love. i’m about to start ‘new moon’ tonight, le swoon.

    and the movie?!?! cannot wait!!

  21. Everyone has such good things to say about these books that I’m really excited to read them, even if it’s just so I know what all the excitement is about. Definitely on my list.

  22. Eeeep! I swear everone is getting into twilight. I just bought it and I’m only a few chapters in but I can tell if I read too much more I will be sucked in. With everyone raving I’m kind of excited for it though.
