The Date With B

We met at the Tapas bar at 6pm. He was sitting at a table waiting when I was walked in the door. He stood up and greeted me with a hug. We sat and exchanged the “It’s so nice to finally meet you!’s and How was your day?’s.

He was everything I expected. Big blue eyes, light brown hair, blue button-up collared shirt. We talked about our jobs; he asked about school. We talked about karaoke, traveling, and living in New York City.

After we deciphered the menu we ordered 4 tapas- tuna steak, artichoke hearts, scallops, and marinated salmon. We each had a glass of red wine. It was delicious.

I was not once bored.

As we finished the last of our wine he asked if I liked cupcakes. Who would say no to that? So he paid the bill and then we walked a few blocks south to Crumbs, one of the best bakeries in NYC. We shared a caramel apple cupcake and each got a hazelnut coffee. We sat for another hour talking and laughing off our sugar high.

When we were ready to go he asked if he could cab me home. I laughed and told him that wasn’t necessary, but I appreciated his thoughtfulness. (Again, this the first time a guy has offered to pay to take me home!) I let him do it anyway. We got in a cab and then he walked me to my building. We stood on the front steps for a few minutes. He said he had a really nice time and said he would like to do it again sometime. I said I agreed.

Then he leaned in and gave me a nice, gentle kiss.

It was perfect. Not too long, not too short. It had enough force, but wasn’t completely over-the-top. He left me wanting more.
