I’m leaving on Saturday for a much needed vacation. Two of my best friends from Texas and I planned a trip to Las Vegas. At first it was just going to be the three of us. Now I think our group total is 5 or 6. We will be meeting in the airport Saturday evening, taking a taxi to our hotel and beginning our 4 days of non-stop fun.
This won’t be my first trip to Vegas. I’ve been 4 or 5 times before; I’ve actually lost count. I tried to convince my friends to take a cruise this time, but they wouldn’t go for it. I know. I don’t understand either. Who would choose a busy dirty city over a relaxing ship and white beaches? But I digress. I’ve accepted the fact that we’re going to Vegas and now I’m excited about this mini-vacation.
The first time I went I was 11 years old and it was a family vacation. We stayed at The Stratosphere and Caesar’s Palace. I wasn’t too impressed with The Stratosphere, but there was a roller coaster on top of the building and that was cool for my 11 year old self. At Caesar’s Palace I loved that there was a shopping mall inside the hotel AND there was a phone (!) in the bathroom.
Throughout high school I went back to Vegas a few more times for dance conventions. A group of 10 of us girls would go (most often with a few moms) and spend a week on the strip. We spent the days inside hotel conference rooms learning new dance routines and at night we would walk up and down the strip exploring the casinos and gorgeous hotels. On those trips we stayed at Alexis Park resort, The Excalibur, and New York New York.
My last trip to Vegas happened the week after I graduated from college. I was 21. I was only there for one day so I didn’t get into too much trouble. My friend and I gambled for a few hours, ate dinner, met some new friends at a bar, and went to bed. You can read the whole ordeal here.
So Saturday I will be going back. I’ll have 4 days to explore the city. I will be trying craps for the first time. I will be frequenting the buffets. I will be (hopefully) seeing Cirque de Soleil again. I will be spending hours laying out at the pool (75 degree weather all week!). I will definitely be eating at In-n-Out.
Since I’ve been to Vegas before I feel like I know the city pretty well. I know the Bellagio has the best buffet, The Wynn has the best pool, and Ceasar’s Palace has the best shopping. But what about you? Have you been to Vegas? Am I missing anything that I must see/do?
